The engine is the most important part of a boat, even more so than those of cars or motorcycles. And in the same way as other motorized vehicles, chiptuning presents benefits that are not negligible. That said, the engine chiptuning of a boat should never, in any case, be addressed the same way as a car.
The adequate procedure
Different from other types of vehicles, the procedure of chiptuning boats must meet specific requirements. On one hand, the tools used, as well as the power and coupling curves are different. It is therefore not a matter of acting like a maritime tuning expert just because we have anterior experience with terrestrial vehicles.
Whether its a boat or a jet ski, you better be equipped with good tools and rely on good handy-man skills to proceed. The load, the power, the temperature and even the coupling of the engines must be perfectly in control for a successful chiptuning . Those of you who are more skilled must look at the main difference between the outboard and embedded engines.
The criteria to consider
As with all tuning operations, you need to consider parameters such as the manufacturer, model, production year, and above all the type of engine. If an increase in power is usually demanded, it is rarely a priority for boats and all kinds of vessels.
When we chiptune a boat’s engine, the first concern would be the improvement of its energy efficiency in general. It is a matter of obtaining more distance for the same amount of fuel oil. Therefore, you would avoid unpleasant surprises and, in case of bad weather, finding yourself out of fuel.
If however, you need to be ready for a particularly stormy sea and have important cargo, it may be wise to consider more gross power, and a bigger capacity to dominate the torrents.
